BOB ATHENS 21, 5'11, 178 lbs. An exciting new personality who has taken Hollywood by storm, Bob is frequently approached by agents, and scouts who have told him that both in his appearance and actions he strongly resembles the late James Dean. For the time being of least, he has no desire to enter pictures, appreciating his freedom entirely too much.

To be happy, Bob has got to be outdoors. Sunshine or rain (and it does occassionally rain in Southern California) he's out on the motorcycle heading for the mountains where he will waterski in winter or go hunting and fishing in the summer. Quite frequently he heads for Malibu Beach where he indulges in his favorite sport: Skin diving.

These and many additional shots of Bob were taken by Joe Robinson, a talented young photographer who for many years worked in an exclusive Hollywood portrait studio, and has carried over the same high quality, exacting requirements into his physique studies. Joe offers five different sets of 6 each studies of Bob Athens at $2 per set. For $1 he will send samples of his rugged athletes in levis (if specified) and literature about his various offerings. HYPNOSIS AND SELF-HYPNOSIS AS AN AID TO A BETTER BODY.

By Bob Mizer, photographer for AMG Studios

Hypnosis is one of the most misunderstood of all the sciences. It is by some people feared and credited with preposterous properties, while by others it is flippantly dismissed as a complete fraud. The dangers of hypnosis are ridiculously overexaggerated. Anyone who could "be taken advantage of" while in a state of trance could probably more easily be abused while completely awake, and on the contrary while in the deep sleep our "moral censor" (super ego) tends to be extra alert and the individual is more critical on moral issues than he would be while awake. The buffoonery we see "dignified" business men indulge in while on the stage in a trance, is only the released latent exhibitionism he probably also shows after a drink or two. It is possible to have sexual relations with an individual under hypnosis, but only if the same person would accede in the waking state also, and the Zombie-like response might be less than satisfactory to the prurient experimenter.

What interests us here is the great increase in the hypnotized person's abilities--this is not to say that these same abilities were not always present, but in the hypnotized state, they can reach their zenith. We have observed and conferred with many of the great champion weight-lifters, and a good many of them practice a ritual which is a form of self-hypnosis before trying for a particularly heavy lift. Naturally, it is never possible for them to handle more than their muscles have been conditioned for, but at one time they will succeed with a given weight, yet on a subsequent try will fail. Why? Probably mental forces play a far greater role than any physical factor. Actors on a stage often "live" their part --losing all touch with the present. A clever salesman can inoffensively guide us into buying his product or signing a contract, because we have "confidence" in him--and it was "our own idea anyway"---yet another man with the same proposition would fail.

HYPNOSIS AND SELF HYPNOSIS AS AN AID TO A BETTER BODY

.....continuation of Movies we have taken of bodybuilders at exhibitions compared with those taken at the studio convince us that under the "influence" of the cheering crowd, their muscles actually swell up larger and they turn out a performance impossible under static conditions. However, under hypnosis with the suggestion being given that a crowd is present the preferred response is again gained. In regular posing, it is possible to induce a state of calm and quietude to insure smooth posing. Extraordinary balances can often be maintained.

All of us are constantly using a form of self-hypnosis or autosuggestion, though unfortunately as often as not it is applied negatively and we convince ourselves of our "weaknesses" and limitations. We tell ourselves we cannot do a certain thing, and by golly we cant do it. Certainly, you cant defy physical law by even the most ardent "positive thinking" but with it you can often realize your fullest potential.

What is hypnosis? It is SUPER CONCENTRATION which eliminates all disrupting thoughts or stimuluses. Such a condition is difficult for most people to achieve by themselves, but almost everyone finds it easy with a skilled hypnotic operator. Paying money for a hypnotic experience is usually an unnecessary expenditure, as any person in whom you have sufficient confidence who will study the mechanics of the art, can make the suggestions to the receptive subconscious mind to help make you a stronger, more attractive, dynamic person.

If enough readers show interest, in future issues we will discuss how hypnotic experiments can be conducted. Some have expressed the fear that such power in the hands of unscrupulous persons would be very dangerous. But the truth is the person who plans mischief will learn to his embarrassment very quickly that he "controls" a subject only so long as he caters to the basic personality needs of the individual in trance.
